Petals & Grace Series
Some things grow more beautiful with time. I've believed this since my twenties, when I worked as an artisan refinishing antique furniture, learning to read the history in a weathered surface, to honor what age leaves behind rather than erase it. That sensibility never left me.
Today I work in acrylics and mixed media on wood panels. My process is rooted in layering, building up, then sanding back, letting what lies beneath resurface. Each surface carries its own history before I ever touch it, and that history becomes part of the finished work.
Into these surfaces I paint botanicals, close and monumental blooms that fill the entire panel. My botanical series, Petal & Grace, features flower blooms anchored by wood appliques, aged and painted into the surface, turning each painting into something closer to a reliquary than a picture. Something precious, held.
This series began as a personal comfort after loss, and it continues to grow. I want the person standing in front of these pieces to feel what I felt making them, that beauty is real, that it endures, and that it is always worth returning to.
